Celebrities have taken to the Twittersphere to express their shock and sadness at the death of Amy Winehouse.
Singer Winehouse, 27, was found dead in her Camden flat on Saturday afternoon. Her cause of death remains “unexplained”, although forensic tests are expected in the next few days.
Winehouse, famous for tracks like Rehab, Back to Black and her cover of Valerie with Mark Ronson, lived a troubled life in the media glare.
Her addiction to hard drugs and alcohol was well chronicled in the press – and she had just cancelled a series of European shows after being booed off stage for appearing drunk.
Stars across the world have paid tribute to the singer, many turning to Twitter to leave messages and prayers.
Amongst them was Katy Perry, who said “may she finally rest in peace.” Perry’s husband, Russell Brand, himself a former addict, wrote a lengthy tribute to Winehouse on his website which was as personal as it was touching.
Other stars to pay tribute include Cee-Lo, Rihanna, Kelly Osbourne, Mark Ronson, Piers Morgan, Lily Allen, Ronnie Wood and Dita Von Teese.
